Default TiVo in Deal to Take DVR to PCs

TiVo signed a deal with Nero, a German developer of software for burning CDs and DVDs and editing photos, which will develop an application to provide TiVo digital video recorder features on personal computers.

“This agreement provides TiVo with an opportunity to deliver its interface and differentiated feature set globally via the PC, enabling TiVo to use all avenues of mass distribution – from consumer electronics, to cable and satellite boxes and soon, the PC,” TiVo president and CEO Tom Rogers said, in a statement.

The companies cited In-Stat research that projected 50.8 million PC TV tuners, which let consumers watch TV content on their computers, will be sold worldwide by 2011.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Nero, based in Karlsbad, Germany, has distributed or sold 240 million copies of its software solutions worldwide.
