Default What dish to use

I was curious what some people use for dishes. I have a small 16 inch dish with a standard bv/dish/ lmb. When the last bins went down on bv I moved over to Echostar 5. This sat still gave me good results however its guide only worked for a select few like fox and maybe two others. I am new to this and I am curious is anyone knows whose sat that is, just because I was picking up Hard Attack and Octane which are Sirius Chs. I was getting a weak signal though so i used two dishes and wound up with 300 hits, enen a few ppvs but still a weak signal. I also live in Alberta Canada and that is the first time I have found a sat that far south which makes me think maybe my dish and lmb are sub par. I use a viewsat xtreme if that give anyone any help as to what im doing.
I got the new bin file now so its not a big deal because everything works great agian, but i just wanted to get some light shed on what I could impove on. Thanks to all who teach the blind.

Please do not hijack other people's thread! Search around and try to find an answer to your question. It is very likly that someone else has asked the same question and the answer is already posted somewhere.

Now to your question. E5 has only few SD channels. It broadcasts mostly HD channels and since your VS extreme is a SD receiver, you are not picking those up. I am not sure what type of dish or LNB you have. I have posted a lot of pictures in the LNB section. Look them up and identify your dish. If you point to 110/E8 or 119/E7 you will pick up much more SD channels.

If you are interested to find out which channels are being broadcasted on which sat, visit lyngsat.com.

I would think that because you are receiving Sirus and 300+ channels that sat would be Echo7 at 119W.

Merog - I am only guessing here but did you move the original post because of a hijack?

I agree with Satbum...but bigger is better (when it comes to a dish) so if you want to do some testing, get a bigger dish to pull in the distant birds better & hang a good LNB on there so you can get both Linear & Circular signals...Invacom QPH-031. Then you might as well put a motor on it too. Then you can get 'em all friend. Check out the LNB at our sponsor (on sale now) >>>

My Bad!
I got side tracked when the original post started asking what sat had the Sirus channels. It did start off asking about the different dishes that others use.
I totally agree with SJ about the dish being bigger is better. If you want to get some of the weaker birds such as 97W, I would get a 36". Even then it can be hard to find from my experience.

conanenterprises let us know what you really are interested in and we can help you out a little better.

Satbum,
To answer your question, yes this was a hijacked. So I moved it here.
And surely I agree with you a 36" dish with invacam LNB and a motor behind it is the way to go. This way you can hit all possible FTA channels.
