Just curious guys...

Say there logging ISP addresses... Say someone was to connect to the server via free wifi through a rooftop antenna.. Am I to believe that DN would take a chance on sending court notices out with just an ISP as proof?? Knowing that it is possible that people are connecting to open wifi under other people's info?? I am no way saying it is safe to connect now... Just curious to know taking action by ISP only makes legal sense for DN.. If they were indeed behind the latest events.

I can only speak my view.. if you are getting that wi-fi from someone other than your next door neighbor.. they probably would not come after you... .I have read where with court orders.. they went after someone downloading child porn and then discovered it was the neighbor using their unsecured Internet to do it.. and yes.. they did get court docs to get them....
I can not speak for DN or JJGee or any of their investigators.. on what they will or will not do.. If they are logging IPS... all it would take is a massive 1-10,000 (for an example) John Doe Warrant.. from a judge to get information on IPs along with any information needed right to your name and address..
and remember each device. be it a receiver or a computer has its own IP assigned to it.. txsgent

Hey DishUser how are you bro? Your router acts as a gateway/switch. Your ISP gives you "1" "Public IP Address". This is your personal number associated to your ISP account even with DHCP leases it will still light you up like a target. Your router uses NAT which translates your "Internal 192 class C addresses to your public bro. So even if you spoof router mac you're still identified by the "ISP OWNED device mac" which is where your public IP is assigned to. I hope this helps..

You are nearsighted unclebeest, you should have a broader outlook.
If you're up high (not just high) you can cover a great distance. What's around you?

Your location both altitude & most importantly "line of sight" along with how busy the air ways are around you determine distance. Looking on ebay under "long range WiFi antennas" yields a few sellers that claim similar results. A few have 30 day return if results are not satisfactory.

GTFOH I am just plain old. Feel like Mr tech. Except
I lean the other way. Will get to it. I need to wake up
and stop letting technology pass me by.
Never heard of it either. Will probably need help.
How about starting a sticky for us old farts. Post some
links. Help a brother out.
Peace,
BT
