WEC fight card for ‘Faber vs. Brown’ official for September 10 in Florida
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee152/ftaconcept/wec361.jpg
The full lineup for WEC 36 was made official today. The event will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., on September 10, airing live on the Versus Network at 9 p.m. ET.
WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber (21-1) will defend his gold for the sixth time against Mike Brown (19-4). Many consider Brown to be a top five talent in the 145-pound division. He’s strong, athletic and well rounded. Accordingly, the American Top Team-trained fighter poses a real threat to “The California Kid’s” reign as division kingpin.
As expected, Chael Sonnen (21-9-1) will get his long awaited rematch with WEC Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho (16-0). Sonnen previously challenged for Filho’s title at WEC 31 in December. The champ was able to secure an armbar late in the third round, and despite Sonnen pleading for the fight not to be stopped, the ref intervened anyway.
It was definitely a controversial ending and the rematch was a foregone conclusion.
In one of the more guaranteed to be exciting fights so far this year, featherweights Jens Pulver and Leonard Garcia will face off in the cage. Who doesn’t want to see this fight? I’m drooling.
Once again the WEC has put together a can’t miss fight card. The promotion continues to make the rest of the struggling organizations like Elite XC look bad simply by offering a better product.
Here’s the official lineup for WEC 36:
145 lbs.: WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah ” The California Kid” Faber (21-1) vs. Mike Brown (19-4)
185 lbs.: WEC Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho (16-0) vs. Chael Sonnen (22-9-1)
155 lbs.: “Razor” Rob McCullough (16-4) vs. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (8-0)
145 lbs.: Jens ” Little Evil” Pulver (22-9-1) vs Leonard Garcia (15-3)
135 lbs.: Rani Yahya (12-4) vs. Yoshiro Maeda (23-5-2)
185 lbs.: Jake Rosholt (4-0) vs. Danillo Villefort (8-2)
170 lbs.: Alex Serdyukov (12-4) vs. Johny Hendricks (3-0)
205 lbs.: Tim McKenzie (12-5) vs. David Avellan (2-0)
155 lbs.: Ed Ratcliff (6-1) vs. Danny Castillo (5-1)
Jake Rosholt, Donald Cerrone and Johny Hendricks are names to look out for on this card. All three have been featured on episodes of “Tapout.” Rosholt and Hendricks boast insane wrestling credentials, while “Cowboy” is an accomplished Muay Thai fighter.
Keep your eyes peeled on fight night.
