Hard Drive Recordings Are Too Dark

The quality on my Duo is great when I watch live tv, but the recorded shows are very dark. I have a Western Digital 500 GB MyBook Essential. (I formated it to FAT32)

I can adjust the brightness settings on the receiver and/or tv to fix the darkness, but then when I go back to watching live tv, the image is too bright and washed out.

Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

it might be the hard drive doin this can you try another hard drive??

That's a good idea. I had tried it on another TV and it was the same problem. I bought WD because it seemed to be suggested the most.

Which one do you think I should try?

What hard drive besides Western Digital has been providing a good picture for you? Your suggestions would be appreciated.

My Lacie 500GB was working great up until about 2 weeks ago. Haven't found out what went wrong yet. Tried everything and still get "wrong file" message on all my recordings.
