CG's Prelim Review on the Neusat 6000 Premium
The unit came with Remote control , Switch, RCA cable, Null modem cable & Users manual. well package in a 2 tone blue/ orange-red. It is a USB programmable receiver, the receiver is black with a rounded front face.
Set up:
Downloaded latest release and loaded on my USB flash stick, then proceeded to connect the reciever up and power up. First thing I noticed is the remote did not work, so after changing batteries , realized it was not the batteries, I took the whole remote apart and played with the inside contacts and the springs in between the batteries and finally got it to work. First thing I did was take a quick look at all the dish settings and the OSD displays. Noticed in the menu settings there are 5 tabs, Installations, System settings, User preference, Games & Blind search, then checked all tabs to see all the features and options. Once done inserted the USB flash stick and the SW came up immediately saying SW was found it also detected my captain SW on the same stick which is not good, LOL, click on OK and it proceeded to download the SW, and then finished and then rebooted but screen kept jumping horizontal lines, so after 40sec, I decided to do a hard reboot. the receiver would not come out of that state, so I decided to hook it up to the computer and try to reload via Null Cable. took about 2 minutes and I was back up on the installation screen. set my Antenna settings, noticed the signal and quality meters are not tweaked strongly, needs some improvement as my main receivers get are in the high 90's and this unit is in the high 70's., set each Bird separate and did a scan with network search off, but quickly noticed it did not get all channels, so I proceeded to do a scan with network search on this time got a much better scan, then hit the sort button on the remote to sort by SID or Service ID. Then set time, User Preferences set Auto Roll, EPG, Provider name, Local map, then I let it sit and roll, took about 3 minutes and it was up and running.
Observations:
F1 ( Zoom) F2 (Theme) F3 (0) F4 ( Calender) , Blue button (Audio), Yellow (TV/Sat) Did not work, Green ( Sat Filter), Red (Fta/Cas), Info (once) channel tab, Info (twice) description, OK button Channel list,
Then moved around the channels and noticed channel change is slow and moves as a fade away, Epg not that impressive, needs work, had it set to 3 days barely had 12 hours and some empty spaces, and picture quality is not that great, also notice on rain fade picture freezes up and needs either a channel up or down to get picture back
Will do more testing when I get a better remote, and have some more time to test.
Rating on a scale of 1 to 10 being the best
Ease of set up 9
Scanning 8
EPG 6.5
Picture 7,5 (Seen better needs improvement)
Menu/OSD 7 (Not that impressed)
Signal/quality Meter 5
Overall rating 7 (For me this is a basic receiver with some Bells and Whitles but need a lot of improvements on the SW and OSD and EPG)
**Must say though the service from FTAPROS has been A1 as the receiver was shipped promptly and as soon as I notified them of the remote issue, they immediately shipped another remote out. I would hightly recommend them for all your FTA needs**
