SATOPIA ST1100UT
I purchased this receiver and this is my review of it. For someone who has been around the block with FTA receivers, I found this receiver to be fairly easy to setup.. but I am not a newbie. I liked the speed of the autoscan of satellites.. I would rate this receiver a 7.5 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being best.
This is what I did with my receiver straight out of the box. I checked to see, which factory file was on the receiver.. I saw, that it was not the most current factory file available.. So. I loaded the most current factory file on it.. I was not impressed with how long it took to load that file onto the receiver, using USB Flash Drive. The latest 3rd party file, loaded much easier, than the factory file did.
I then went into setup. I selected the satellites I wanted to setup.. one at a time.. you must choose the satellites you want to have setup on your receiver.. Then do the correct settings, for your dish and LNB according to which type of LNB you have. That was easy, but I would have liked to have seen a signal and quality meter, showing signal, while selecting them.. to verify.. they were working satellites and especially if they were for a new setup. This would be very helpful for a newbie, setting up a new receiver. But with the Satopia, you do not see the signal and quality meters until you get into Autoscanning. When you are in Autoscanning, you must select the satellite you want to setup and then turn on ALL by arrowing to the right or left of the satellite you are setting up. After Autoscanning, you must remember to turn it back off and then select the next satellite you are going to setup.. and select All again.. when done remember to turn it off too. The speed of the Autoscan is faster than any receiver, I have autoscanned before this one. Once you have autoscanned each satellite you want to scan.. then you can exit out of the menu and go to any Premium Channel or PPV Channel and wait for the keys to roll. It only took a matter of minutes and I was up and watching channels.. I do not own a HD TV, but the picture quality is as good as any other receiver I have used.. I would rate it right up with the Viewsat Ultra or the SonicView 4000 or even the Coolsat 6000. The guide is easy to see and to read, not hard on the eyes.. To access the keys, it is a little more complicated than I would prefer it to be.. but not difficult to do. You, must go into, menu and to Lock Control and turn off Autoroll, first, which you want to do anyway, if you are manually entering keys. Then you exit out of the menu totally.. then you hit the Menu Button and then the Red Mosaic Button and the key menu will open up.. So that you can manually enter keys.. But you can access the Key menu anytime you want to verify keys without going into Lock Control. Just by hitting the Menu Button and then the Red Mosaic button. Which is a good thing, to make sure your keys are current. I must say.. for the price, that I am very pleased with my receiver. It is as good as any other FTA receiver I own.. I would recommend anyone purchasing it to use. JMO, txsgent
