DIRECTV Apologizes for SuperFan Fumble

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like many teams in the NFL during the opening week of the season, DIRECTV apparently fumbled away a prime opportunity to satisfy its insatiable football fans. Now the satellite company has issued an apology to its subscribers saying the miscues are a thing of the past and its ready for week two.

The issues came about Sunday when several DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket subscribers encountered several problems throughout the company's coverage of pro football's week one. According to reports and bloggers across the internet, viewers reported audio and video was lost during the game-winning field goal between Green Bay and Philadelphia, numerous reports of audio failures on the SuperFan Channel during pregame shows, several reports of subscribers seeing an error message instead of being able to view afternoon games, and the company's new SuperCast internet service was down.

Later that day, DIRECTV had posted a message on its SuperCast login site that read: "We apologize for the inconvenience, but SuperCast is currently experiencing overwhelming demand. Please try again later." To gain access to the SuperCast service, subscribers had to pay an additional $99 for the SuperFan package on top of the $295 Sunday Ticket price to watch football online.

On Tuesday, DIRECTV sent a letter to its "valued SuperFan Customer" saying if anyone had trouble accessing the online games, "we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We are excited that so many fans want to experience this brand-new feature and have corrected the issue to ensure that all future Sunday games will be accessible online through the NFL Sunday Ticket SuperCast feature."
