Captiveworks CW-3000HD Setup Guide
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR NEW OWNERS
FIRST AND FOREMOST, DO NOT INSTALL A HARD DRIVE UNTIL AFTER YOU DO THE MANDATORY UPDATE!! If you have already installed a hard drive, remove any recordings you have made, then change to a new channel, preferably not an HD channel, and exit your profile. This will minimize the files that are being copied. The update will clean up anything that gets through this to the flash disk. This must be done before you apply the Manditory Update (discussed later). If you don't, it will corrupt your flash and will require you to send your unit in for repair.
Currently, these receivers do not have the ability to watch HD on DN channels AS IS, however there is an adapter available for purchase from Genpix called "8PSK-to-USB2". Genpix also offers another adapter called "SkyWalker-I" which is currently not supported with this receiver but may be supported in the future. The Genpix 8PSK-toUSB2 adapter will be discussed later on.
INFORMATION ON SETTING UP YOUR BOX FOR THE FIRST TIME
NOTE: The pics and information here are primarily pulled from the CW3000HD users guide. If you have already done this, please skip to the next section, ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY.
Upon first boot you need to complete the Initial Setup or else the unit will not function properly. This will configure the receiver to work with your TV and network.
NOTE: Remember that everytime you change something in these settings that you need to press the "blue button" to save.
Choose Admin from the main screen.
Enter 1111 (default pin) and press the blue button when prompted for a pin.
This will bring up the Admin screen.
Once you are logged into the Admin profile you will need to setup your network and TV output settings using the configurations menu.
NOTE: Do not enable the network unless the network is connected. Enabling the network without a connection will add ~1 minute to the boot process. If the network is disconnected disable the network in the Admin setup to avoid unnecessary delays.
● Choose Ethernet for a hard wired connection. Wireless is reserved for future use.
● Choose Enable Network: Yes to enable the network Choose Enable Network : No to disable the network.
● Obtain an address assumes DHCP os being used on the network and needs no further setup. Most home networks with a router also use DHCP for network configuration.
● Enter Network Information if static addressing is being used. The IP Address, Gateway, Net Mask and, DNS boxes need to be filled as appropriate for the network.
● Press the blue button to save the changes
Return to the previous menu and select Display Setup
● Select the Type of video connector you wish to use from the CW-3000HD that corresponds with your Television hardware
● Select the Display resolution you wish to use that also corresponds with your Television hardware.
● Press the blue button to save the changes
NOTE: If you use a resolution that your TV is not compatible with, it can cause loss of video or bad video quality. Check to be sure that the type of connection that you use and your TV, both support the resolution setting.
NOTE: In the even that you do enable a display setting that causes you to lose video on you TV, you will need to connect to a VGA monitor to correct the settings.
Once this is finished you are ready to install the Mandatory Update followed by the first Factory Update Flash.
ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY!
NOTE: If you skipped the setup information and have already installed a hard drive, you need to remove any recordings you have made (check to be sure even if you don't think you did), then change to a new channel, preferably not an HD channel, and exit your profile.
Over the past couple of weeks there have been some updates that are manditory for some boxes. If the serial number on your new CW3000HD is CWHD0703120123 or below

Network link checking to remove the 30 second timout with no network connected.
Pretty new splash screens.
Some tweaks to the hard drive update process.
For those patiently waiting for the motor setup it's not here. This update was not planned but deemed necessary due to the hard drive issues. The motor support is coming.
From here you can choose to update with the two newer updated files 1.0.1.2 and 1.0.1.3. When you have finished updating, you can now scan for channels.
SATELLITE SETUP
NOTE: This information was pulled from the CW3000HD User's Manual.
NOTE: This receiver is not capable of using DN HD channels. If you only have a single LNB dish to point, I would suggest pointing at Nimiq 2 (82W) to get the most from your receiver at the moment.
Login to the Admin profile as described before.
Choose Antenna
Select Satellite
● Choose either DiSEqC for a DiSEqC switch setup or None for a single LNB.
● One LNB/Satellite needs to be setup at a minimum.
● The port lines correspond to a diseqc switch port numbers.
● Fill out each line accordingly with LNB type and the satellite that the LNB is aimed at.
● An individual satellite may be scanned with the “Scan” buttons.
● All configured satellites may be scanned with the red “Scan All” button.
● Press the blue button to save the changes.
● A satellite that is not listed may be added with the green button. (Instructions will follow later)
NOTE: If more than one provider is to be scanned, an offset can be specified per satellite to avoid channel number collision.
The CW-3000HD numbers channels by the Service ID by default. Channel numbers can be edited once scanning is finished, but during scanning duplicate SIDs will overwrite any previously scanned channels with similar SIDs. This can present a problem if more than one provider's satellite(s) is scanned. An offset of 10,000 is usually adequate to separate channels
from multiple providers. For providers with multiple satellites set, all of their satellites to the same offset. To set an offset, press the “Edit” button for the desired satellite(s). Set the offset and press the blue button to save.
● Once the offset is set, scanning for available channels can begin.
● Either select each satellite's scan button to scan the particular satellite individually or press
the red button to scan all configured satellites at once.
● In the scanning screen, a signal meter and the scanned video and audio channels list is
displayed.
● There are 2 scanning options Thorough and Fast. The fast scan is faster but more prone to
error on weak signals. Thorough will do a better job with weak signals but takes longer.
Use the scanning method that produces the best results.
● Press the green button to start the scan.
● Press the blue button to save the channel list after the scan is complete.
How to restore missing HD channels.
Once you get all your channels scanned, you may notice that some or all of your HD channels do not work correctly or at all.
There are two ways to resolve this, manually, and automatic.
Manually updating the channel list requires a little knowledge of Linux. The problem with the scanned channel list is that the CAID on most HD channels is set to 0 but needs to be 1234.
