SATELLITE -- The DIRECTV 10 satellite, launched on July 6, has been successfully placed in geo-synchronous orbit and is currently undergoing in-orbit testing. The testing process has confirmed that the satellite is fully functional to deliver all planned nationwide HD programming, DIRECTV said.

INTERNATIONAL -- SES Global South America Holdings signed a five-year deal with AR-SAT for five transponders on the AMC-6 satellite, the company said last week. Empresa Argentina de Soluciones Satelitales Sociedad Anonima (AR-SAT) will be using two standard Ku-band and three extended Ku-band transponders on SES' bird.

TECHNOLOGY -- Hypres is developing a SATCOM transceiver capable of directly digitizing a wide spectrum of frequencies. The company said the transceiver is based on digital superconductivity technology where analog-to-digital components are housed in a cryocooler. Hypres said it believes the new transceiver will be able to replace nearly 80 percent of the current components now needed to take satellite signals and convert them to digital.
