Hello all. I currently have a Neosat iPro 2000 and I'm looking at getting a CW800. When DTV kicks in early 2009, will this affect our ability to get pic on these units?

Maybe we don't know this answer yet. Sorry, I just don't understand how these work especially when you through in the mix of the DTV changes coming in Feb 2009.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Emulation of dtv is not possible on a fta receiver, plus a legal or proprietary issue would come into play.

thanks timer...

so just to be clear, my current FTA receiver will NOT work on D~N come Feb 2009? Is that accurate? And does the same thing apply to the CW800S-PVR that I'm looking at?

You asked about dtv which I responded to. As for d2n I have been thru n1 n2,no one has a crystal ball but the odds are we will keep going.

I believe what your asking about is n3 coming into the stream in 2009. The blackbird st1000 was the first fta receiver to receive a third party image, since that time there has been huge leaps in hardware, pansat 1500,2500,fortec ultra,dm500,coolsat,viewsat and captive works. The ability and knowledge of coders and engineers along with new tools being introduced has brought fta a long way compared to the old blackbird days. After the packers lost to the giants Brett Favre was asked if the giants could beat the patriots, his answer was "I wouldnt put it past them"

Are you talking about getting directv with the CW800? If that is the question then it is not possible. If you are talking about Dtv as Digital television instead of analog then that is not a problem as all FTA boxes will work. If you are talking about n2 to n3 switch then no one knows what is going to work or not.

UFC is correct, digital tv broadcast conversion, (OFF THE AIR) will not affect the fta world. It only pertains to analog tv reciever that has rabbit ear ant or other ota type. Subscriber to Sat or cable should not be affected since most of these are already in digital format. :)

shady...

sorry, I didn't realize that "dtv" was so confusing :)

I meant "Digital TV" and not Direct TV. Does your comment that says FTA receivers won't work with DTV pertain to DirectTV or Digital TV?

I'm ready to order a CW800, but really don't want to if it's not going to work with Digital TV.

I truly appreciate your expertise everyone so please feel free to set me straight.

To answer your question digital television is for over the air reception. The FTA receivers are fine when that change happens.

I don't think alot of people are worried about tv going from analog to digital. I think the thing is going to be N3, but we'll come to that road when we cross it. Until then sit back, relax and watch t.v.

In answer to your question NO. The signal your receiver is already receiving is digital. This will mostly effect terrestrial television. You know rabbit ears etc....
