Q. What is A Dongle?
A. Dongle is a small piece of hardware that connects to a computer.
The usual function of a dongle is to authenticate a piece of software. Without the dongle, the software will run only in a restricted mode,or not at all.

Dongles are used by some proprietary vendors as a form of copy prevention or digital rights management, because it is much harder to copy a dongle than to copy the software it authenticates.

Despite being hardware, however, dongles are not a
complete solution to the trusted client problem.
Vendors of software-protection dongles
(and dongle-controlled software)
often use terms such as hardware key, hardware token,
or security device instead of dongle, but the term "dongle" is much more common in day-to-day use.
vendor to engage in vendor lock-in and charge more
than it would otherwise for the product.

Q. Is this Legal?
A. Yes 100% The puropse of this dongle is to receive weather forecasts and many cool games that will be added soon.

Q. What does this do with my FTA Receiver?
A. The dongle connects to the receiver and allows the receiver to connect to the internet to receive updates, weather information, and much more.

Q. What is IKS?
A. IKS uses a key exchange to set up a shared session secret, from which cryptographic keys are derived. Public key techniques or, alternatively, a
pre-shared key, are used to mutually authenticate the communicating parties.

Q. What does IKS stand for?
A. IKS Is short for Internet Key Sharing

I think the dongle is going to be great, but at this time, Im staying with the nfusion for IKS, it has not failed me yet. A question of the dongle, wondering if a dongle will work on any receiver coolsat, captain, captive works etc.? Will you just have to purchase ONE dongle and it will it work on the receivers as mentioned?

There's pros and cons on the IKS stuff but it surely is not for the timid.

Make sure that you read up on IKS and thoroughly understand what it is, so you can make an informed decision. As ufcwatcher pointed out there are pros and cons...know what they are!!

Could be a very interesting ride!!! Wish my crystal ball worked;)

Anyone have any thoughts on how IKS might work with alternate internet options (ie dial-up, satellite, etc). When you live in a rural area and internet providers don't choose to expand the high speed connections another 5k, you get stuck with one of the above options. Dial-up is obviously a pain in the a**, and I am coming to find out that satellite is just as bad with their FAP (Fair Access Policy - don't GET ME STARTED!!!!). From my limited understanding of FAP, the user's bandwidth gets decreased when the internet provider deems you have been using too much, supposedly at the expense of your fellow users in the area. I'm curious how this might impact IKS, OR is the answer as simple as you need highspeed ethernet connection for it to work?

From what I have read, I am not completely comfortable with IKS - I hope CS sticks with stand-alone bin files as well. In the end though - I guess we do leave a digital fingerprint with everything we do these days!

I am currently using iks (ipro 2k) with dial up. All you have to do is "share" your dialup connection on your pc (check the properties for the connection and check the ADVANCED TAB) and connect to the fta box via ethernet. The fta box can then use the dialup connection. Im not familiar with exactly what is going on but the iks option seems to use very little bandwidth.
