Dish Network 4th-quarter profit rises as company's subscriber base increases
Associated Press - February 26, 2008 11:24 AM ET
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Dish Network says its fourth-quarter profit climbed 14%, even though it added fewer new subscribers than the previous year due to aggressive competition and a sluggish economy.
The Englewood-based company says earnings rose to $175 million, compared with 153 million in the same period a year earlier.
But the profits of 39 cents a share missed the forecasts of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial by 6 cents apiece.
Dish Network's stock fell 4% in morning trading.
The company says it added the equivalent of 85,000 subscribers during the quarter.
Dish says that brought its total subscriber base to 13.78 million at the end of 2007
