the reason why coolsat has been slacking lately is I heard theyre working on a IKS adapter for the coolsats so no more down time. anyone else here heard this before?

No but how would that help current receivers if they don't have an ethernet port?

IKS on coolsat? While not impossible, I highly doubt it.

A better rumor would be that they have been slacking lately because they have been putting their efforts towards full EMU. :)

Love these rumor mills....Considering I have never seen any outward communication from the NORW Group announcing anything....

Well why not.....those receivers with a USB could be converted to accept a USB wireless NIC or even for those with a ROM card slot (mod a card to act as ethernet...;))

Full EMU...cool!!! guess all us coolsat owners need a new ROM/NVRAM chip to hold that 10MB file.....wait..the original CS7000 has 1GB internal RAM....Oh I am liking this idea...

Go ahead guys...have some fun....use you imagination.....

I leave you all to come up with a way to add ethernet to the CS 4, 5 & 6K.....

All in fun remember;);)

I know less than the average guy but is the concept of piggybacking the existing signals instead of figuring out how to change what bev and dn are using not plausible? Or is that what coders already are doing? The Pudge

Neat concept....not sure that coders are looking at it from that perspective today...more reactionary today than proactive...Cool idea!!! Wonder how big the BIN file would be using that method (or are we talking full EMU)..if possible.....

Thanks Pudge!!!

Come on guys....get into this....have some fun...can't always be grumpy waiting on a new file;)

Would they not then be out of a job?

Ok I am down with this. Maybe they are getting a webserver included into the next upgrade and proxy capabilities for IKS. Oh and they are going to include a serial to ethernet adapter for the receivers that don't have USB. This would be the next box to own for sure.

OFF TOPIC!!!! Not allowed and well lets hope the orignal poster doesn't mind that I hijacked his thread and we're having a bit of fun.....

K.....Folks time to get creative here...

Think I'll buy up all those CS 4000's and stack em up to make a super Coolsat....that will handle any of these map calls as fast as a card!!!!

The serial to ethernet would be fine because the amount of infornmation would not be too large. What a couple of megs at the most. It would not take any longer to get it from the net than to plug it into your computer because the coolsat is the bottleneck not the internet or computer. So your coolsat would update just as fast from the internet as it would to plug it directly to your computer. (assuming you dont use 56k lol) . I will add to it if yur still not convinced. Coolsat comes out with new loader software. With this software you always leave your computer plugged into your coolsat. Your comuter communicates with main server using iks (or whatever it is called) when it detects a change it automatically flashes your coolsat with required update. That would solve the ethernet problem.

Thats more like it...good thought...Kinda like the dave days with a PC in front of the card to protect it.....but with a twist....geeezzz I could even make a serial cable long enough to reach the stb from about 100 ft away....could even be USB to serial for those without serial ports!!!!

Nice one basshawk!!!

Cheers...

OK..whats next.....I know ya all have it ya.....everything goes here!!!!

Ok I have another idea guys. Plug your coolsat into a slightly higher voltage power source thereby overclocking the processor thus allowing your coolsat to handle anything dick can throw at it!!!
Why didnt I think of this before? lol

Ok guys, Last one for me 2-nite. Buy a sonicwiew hd 8000 . Remove cover from your coolsat and place it on your sonicview. Bam, you now have a perfectly working coolsat with hd, tons of support and all the latest fixes. Ps fta4ever, You would not need the usb to serial adapter you speak of because you would not own the coolsat if you did not have a computer with serial allready. Or would you?

Nice twist. You could even hide it making it undetectible to the authorities. What you thought was a power surge that made your light flicker was really me getting my coolsat update. lol

Hey djsoysauce...That's very interesting...and hopefully we see something soon....We weren't bashing you directly....just having some fun with your thread title. I believe at no time did we bash your thread, we just took it a little further with our own FTAConcept fun rumors. If we offended you, I do apologize!!

Please take a look at the spirit of the posts after your initial post.
